Weingut Graf Neipperg – Top wines from high nobility

Weingut Graf Neipperg

With the wines from Graf Neipperg, we are proud to offer top wines of the Württemberg high nobility in our program. Upon clearings on southern slopes and ridges lie the famous VDP.GROSSE LAGEN of Neipperger Schlossberg and Schwaigerner Ruthe, which are in the sole ownership of the family. Specifically, the Lemberger GG and Riesling GG (Grosses Gewächs) from these vineyards are among the best in Württemberg.

The earldom of Neipperg was created in the twelfth century in northern Württemberg. The holdings include around thirty towns and villages. Among them is the city of Schwaigern where the main branch of the family lives to this day in Schloss Schwaigern.

Karl-Eugen Heir to the Earldom of Neipperg

Today the almost 32 hectare winery is managed by Karl-Eugen Erbgraf von Neipperg, the eldest son of Joseph-Hubert von Neipperg. Graf Neipperg focuses on natural and sustainable agriculture in the cultivation of his vines.

The grape variety Lemberger is given special attention because of its great significance. This highly popular local variety was introduced to Germany by the family in the 1700s from Austria, where it’s known as Blaufränkisch.

In addition to the main varieties Lemberger and Riesling, the winery also cultivates Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau), Muskateller, Traminer, Merlot, Syrah, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Trollinger. The wines are produced in their impressive, ancient wine cellar underneath Castle Schwaigern. “Good wine is aged in a good cellar. Our cellar conditions – with naturally cool temperatures – provide the right environment for exquisite wine. And [we’ve done] that for hundreds of years. Both a sign and proof of extraordinary quality.”

Cellarmaster Bernd Supp

has been largely responsible for many years for the continued increase in quality. His unique feel for the use of oak and the introduction of barrel aromas into the wine are guarantees of great wines with an international appeal.

Countless awards like multiple Vinum Deutscher Rotweinpreis (German Red Wine Awards), Gault & Millau 4 Grapes, Eichelmann ***, Vinum ****, and many others speak to their quality.

Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg

In 1971, Joseph-Hubert von Neipperg purchased the vineyards of Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere, and Clos de l’Oratoire as well as Chateau Peyraud, and Chateau la Mondotte in Saint Emilion. Since 1984 these have been managed by his son Stephan-Christoph von Neipperg. These were expanded in 1998 to include Chateau d’Aiguilhe and in 2006 Stephan-Christoph von Neipperg also became co-owner of Chateau Guiraud in Sauternes.

Organic cultivation practices are also a big topic in the House of Neipperg. These ecological philosophies have been continually adapted and in use since 1988. The result of this long-term project has been the “BIO” certification of Chateau Canon la Gaffelière and La Mondotte in 2014

The viticultural philosophy of “ensure survival” is first and foremost a philosophy of life. In view of his deep connection to the earth, but also of his family’s 800-year winemaking tradition, Stephan Graf von Neipperg has made a moral commitment to managing his wineries sustainably and has always held the future generations in mind. Whether Württemberger or French, the “Grossen Gewächse” of Lemberger GG or Riesling GG or most revered Bordeaux wines of Neipperg – try these noble wines. It is definitely worth it.
